Maine Stops UML With DH Wins [VIDEO]
The Black Bears were looking to get out to a hot start in this crucial America East series and did just that with the two big victories. Maine held the River Hawks to just one run over 16 innings and put up nine runs on offense to secure the two wins. The Black Bears are now 14-27 on the year with a 4-9 conference record. They’ll wrap up their series tomorrow against UMass Lowell at 1:00 p.m.
Game One: Maine 8-1 Mass-Lowell
The Black Bear offense came alive with eight runs in the contest, including a three run eighth inning to seal the victory in the first game of the series. Maine was led offensively by shortstop Jeremy Pena who went three for five with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Colin Ridley also had a nice game with a two-run double in the seventh inning. Logan Fullmer notched his third win of the season going seven strong innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out for River Hawks.
Game Two: Maine 1-0 Mass-Lowell (7 innings)
Maine had trouble getting the bats going in the second leg of the double header, but was kept in the contest by a strong pitching performance by John Arcel. Arcel threw six scoreless innings of four hit ball before Nick Silva relieved him with a clean seventh inning. Danny Casals had the game winning hit as he drove in Jonathan Salcedo to give Maine the victory.
