The Sun Journal reports the life-threatening incident happened just before Thanksgiving recess in the Paris Elementary school cafeteria.

SAD 17 Superintendent Rick Colpitts said that teacher Alice Deegan immediately recognized the look of panic on a six-grade boy's face after a water bottle cap got stuck in his throat.

Deegan quickly assessed the situation and performed the Heimlich Manuever to dislodge the plastic bottle cap.

Principal Jane Fahey said that as soon as it was determined the boy was all right there was a huge roar from the students and a standing ovation for their teacher.

This isn't the first time Deegan has been hailed a hero.  The superintendent said the veteran teacher was credited with saving the life of a Rowe Elementary School student in Norway, Maine about 20 years ago.
