If you enjoy sushi, and many people do, then you can thank a Maine fisherman. They're the guys who fish for elvers or baby eel, and their quota has almost been met.

Maines fishing season for elvers has been pretty intense, as of late, due to the fact that the fishermen on are track to meet their quota for the year.

In case you didn't know, Maine's baby eels, known as elvers, are an extremely important part of the sushi market worldwide.

The season for fishing elvers ends on June 7 of this year, which will end about an eleven-month fishing trend. Maine fishermen are only allowed to fish elvers out of streams and rivers for the eleven-month period.
