Maine Father and Daughter Wounded After Gun Discharges in Their Kitchen

A father and his daughter were wounded Sunday morning at their home on Greenhead Lane in Stonington after a handgun the father was cleaning went off, according to Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland.

Authorities say at roughly 9:00am Sunday, both 38-year-old Ryan Matson and his 4-year-old daughter Riley Matson suffered non-life threatening injuries and are being treated at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital after Ryan's .45 caliber handgun fired.

Ryan Matson was in his kitchen cleaning his handgun when it discharged, hitting him in the leg and wounding his daughter in the thigh, who was sitting next to him.

Matson’s wife and a second child were also home at the time of the shooting and were not injured.

No charges are expected.
