Have a Loon License Plate? Get into State Parks Sunday for Free
What true Mainer doesn’t love the Loon Plate?
And this Sunday if you are one that has those specialty license plates on your vehicle, it will be bonus time.
Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry announces this Sunday, the 16th, that plate will get you free admission to most state parks.
This promotion is to celebrate the conservation efforts of the Bureau of Parks and Lands and the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife.
However, admission to the following locations will not be free.
- Acadia National Park
- the Allagash Wilderness Waterway
- Baxter State Park
- Peacock Beach
- the ME Wildlife Park
- Scarborough Beach State Park
- Swan Island
- the Penobscot River Corridor
- and the Penobscot Narrows Observatory in Prospect
Above are not included. However, you can still enjoy free admission to the Fort Knox Historic Site.

You can also join the cause by visiting the Bureau of Motor Vehicles or stop by your local town office. The extra cost is $20. Of that, $8.40 goes to the Bureau of Parks and Lands, $5.60 goes to Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, the remaining $6 goes to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
