More than 50 years ago, Bob Stevenson says his first game coaching a Little League all star team for Bangor was against the Houlton all stars.

How ironic it was for him to walk on the Orrington LL field Saturday for the Maine State Tournament as a district administrator for the final time with the 2016 District #3 champs, the Houlton all stars.

After more than 55 years of volunteer service to Little League Baseball, Stevenson is retiring. Mike Brooker has been elected as the next DA.

Stevenson has done just about everything you can do as a volunteer in Little League, including coaching, umpiring and in 1979 he became the district administrator.

Along with his wife, Yovanne, they have had a hand in baseball and softball in leagues from Caribou to Newport.

During Saturday's opening ceremony, he was presented with a baseball signed by every member of the six teams playing in the 2016 tournament.

Last year, presidents in District #3 voted to honor the Stevensons with 'The Stevenson Cup' award that goes to the District #3 championship team each year in the 11/12 year old division. The announcement was made during last year's Senior League World Series.
