Little Girl Hikes a Mile in the Dark to Find Help for her Dying Father

A father and his nine-year-old daughter were coming back from a birthday party on Sunday night when their 2010 Ford Escape derailed off the road and crashed.

The father was unconscious, and his little girl decided that she needed to find help. She walked a mile in the dark to a house, but no one was home, so she walked back to the vehicle to check up on her father.

She then, saw a light up the road about 1000 feet away. The girl walked in pitch-black conditions, hoping to find help for her father. She was able to flag down a motorcyclist who called the highway patrol and paramedics. When the first responders arrived at the scene; however, they pronounced her father dead.

‘She walked quite a distance in a very, very threatening environment. It's very black out there, very dark,’ said CHP Sgt. Tom Lackey.

The girl was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. She told officers her father crashed their SUV because he started having trouble maneuvering the road.
