Lin-Manuel Miranda Remembers Being Bullied by Immortal Technique

Lin-Manuel Miranda's hip-hop ties run deep, and as a guest on Marc Maron's WTF podcast, the Hamilton star and creator revealed that he had gone to high school with Immortal Technique, the politically charged underground rapper, and was bullied by him. Both artists are from New York's uptown neighborhoods, Miranda hailing from Washington Heights, with Immortal Technique repping Harlem.

"He was our school bully," Miranda says about 39 minutes into his conversation with Maron. "He terrorized kids, he threw them in the garbage. I got thrown in the garbage by him."

Immortal Technique released three albums between 2001 and 2008, and is perhaps best known for his track "Dance With the Devil" off 2001's Revolutionary Vol. 1. Miranda recalled having to work with the rapper on a play in high school and the dread it brought him. "He got a part Senior year and I was like, 'Oh my god, I'm in a fucking play with the dude that scares the shit out of all my friends!'" he says.

Miranda speaks fondly of Technique's career however. "He's one of the most political, ideological [rappers]," he says. "He really made an incredible life for himself as a rapper [...] He was a really angry kid and it's been wonderful to watch him grow up and find a political outlet for that anger."
