Lawmakers who oversee the Maine Warden Service have been given the green light to hold hearings on the agency's conduct during an undercover operation and raid in northern Maine.

The hearings in the next two weeks will focus on questions raised by a Maine Sunday Telegram report that included an agent shooting a deer out of season and providing beer to encourage others to poach during the undercover investigation in Allagash.

The Maine Warden Service, which says it didn't do anything wrong, has agreed to cooperate with the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee

Sen. Paul Davis, committee co-chairman, said legislative leaders have given him informal consent to hold hearings even though the Legislature is out of session.
