The Mars Hill Fire Department responded to a blaze at the home of Wayne Giberson, Sr. at 39 Fort Street around 10 p.m. Fire Chief Darrell Wilson said the caller reported flames going up the side of the two-story house.

The fire worked its way into the attic and made it difficult to contain. Around 20 firefighters from the Mars Hill Fire Dept. were on the scene for about 5 hours, Wilson said. There were no injuries reported.

Chief Wilson returned to the site Tuesday morning to assist the State Fire Marshal’s Office in determining the cause of the fire.

The Bridgewater Fire Department provided mutual aid at the station.
