UConn kicker Bobby Puyol hit a 37-yard field goal with 11-seconds left in the game to beat the UMaine Black Bears 24-21 in an opening night thriller.

For much of the night Maine had the lead in Joe Harasymiak's first game as head coach. It began with a 20-yard TD pass from Dan Collins to Josh Mack in the first quarter.

UConn scored a TD in the second and third quarter to grab a 14-7 lead.

But the Black Bears tied the game on a Collins to Jaleel Reed TD pass on the last play of the third quarter.

Then early in the fourth, Maine's Najee Goode stripped UConn QB Bryan Shirreffs and rumbled to a 74-yard score. The Bears lead 21-14.

The Huskies answered with a TD and then the last second field goal won it.

Maine QB Dan Collins finished 19-for-33, 269 yards and 2 TDs. The Bears rushed for just 40 yards.

Next on the schedule for Maine - at Toledo and another FBS game on September 10th.
