On Thursday, Sept. 8, around 10:00 am, Maine State Police received a report of a man being shot at by another man on Brook Lane in Chelsea. The caller told troopers he had been driving on Brook Lane when an acquaintance fired a rifle at him five times. 

Officers from  Troop D Augusta responded and met with the caller before attempting to make contact with the alleged shooter. Police say the suspect, Douglas Burl, 54, of 45 Brook Lane in Chelsea, was cooperative and was arrested for reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon. A rifle was found a quarter of a mile into the woods behind Burl’s residence. Five shell casings were located in the driveway.

Chelsea Elementary School located, about a quarter of a mile east of Brook Lane, was placed into lockdown for a half hour as a precautionary measure. Police say no one in the school was in any danger.
