You’ve probably figured out by now that I love to cook and bake things with my daughter. In our latest venture, we made homemade sugar cookies. I usually don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but this was not the case with these cookies. I swear I ate ¾ of the batch. Yes, they were THAT good!

I’m glad I snapped a picture before I ate the majority of them! They surely didn’t last long! Here’s a recipe for sugar cookies from Allrecipes.com.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups butter, softened

 2 cups white sugar

 4 eggs

 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

 5 cups all-purpose flour

 2 teaspoons baking powder

 1 teaspoon salt

 Directions:

1. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).

2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. (I used a star, tree, candy cane and gingerbread man.) Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

3. Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.

And for the frosting I used ¾ of a cup of shortening, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, 3 cups of confectioners’ sugar and ¼ cup of milk. Mix that all together. It will have the consistency of a paste. I just waited until the cookies were cooled and then frosted.

They were delicious! What will you be baking this holiday season?
