‘John Wick’ Director Unites Tony Jaa, Tiger Chen and ‘The Raid’s Iko Uwais for ‘Triple Threat’

Ever since Chad Stahelski and David Leitch made their directorial debut with John Wick, the stunt coordinators have become two of Hollywood’s most exciting new action filmmakers. After delivering their breakout hit in 2013, the duo decided to divide and conquer, with Stahelski on John Wick: Chapter 2 and Leitch on the upcoming Charlize Theron thriller The Coldest City. While Leitch is in the running to direct Deadpool 2, Stahelski is lining up another project, uniting three of the most badass martial arts actors on the planet for one sure-to-be-epic action flick.

According to IndieWire, Stahelski is teaming up with Chinese TV director Wang Xiaolie to co-direct Triple Threat, a new martial arts action film that centers on a fighter who travels to Mexico to rescue his ex-wife and son, who have been kidnapped. While in Mexico, there’s probably going to be quite a bit of underground fighting action — or at least you have to assume so, since the film stars Tony Jaa, Tiger Chen and Iko Uwais.

That’s a crazy awesome and diverse trio of talent: Jaa is a martial artist and actor who hails from Thailand and has appeared in films like Ong-Bak and The Protector. Chen is a Chinese martial artist and actor who was Keanu Reeves’ instructor (and appeared with Reeves in Man of Tai Chi) and served as Uma Thurman’s stunt double. Uwais is an Indonesian martial artist, actor and stuntman who is best known for starring in The Raid films, and recently had a small role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Triple Threat is a pretty accurate title for that lineup, to say the least.
