A teaser clip seems to indicate something big is happening in the Jack White camp – maybe even something out of this world.

Third Man Records promises to "make vinyl history again" on July 30, with "more details" coming soon, during the 45-second promo video. What's intriguing is the background, which finds their message floating in orbit.

Fans will remember that White said he was working on a "secret project" in a 2012 talk with Interview, one in which he planned to have a Third Man release become the "first vinyl record played in outer space." Could this plan finally be coming to fruition?

To get there, White said he hoped to "to launch a balloon that carries a vinyl record player. And figure out a way to drop the needle with all that turbulence up there and ensure that it will still play." He did something similar that same year, releasing 1,000 helium balloons into the air with an attached flexi-disc containing the song "Freedom at 21" from his then-forthcoming solo release Blunderbuss.

Of course, Third Man could be promoting something else entirely. Some have also suggested that White plans to reissue the Voyager Golden Record, which launched on the Voyager probes in 1977. White hinted at that possibility too, in his earlier talk with Interview.

Meanwhile, back on Earth, the next installment in Third Man's vault subscription series is a recording of Pearl Jam performing at the label's headquarters in Nashville. White joined them on stage for a version of “Of the Earth.”
