Hartland Fire Chief Mike Walton tells us a passerby reported the fire at 6:10 a.m. at a house on Route 590 near the old Dewares Store.  Because of water supply challenges related to flooding in the area,  the Florenceville-Bristol and Woodstock Fire Departments provided mutual aid, Walton said.

Fourteen firefighters worked for about two hours to extinguish the blaze. There was heavy damage to the upstairs of the house.

Chief Walton said the house is owned by Robbie Acheson of Waterville, who had purchased it in January.  The Fire Marshall was examining the house with the Hartland Fire Department Thursday afternoon to pinpoint the cause of the fire.
