The blaze was reported around 1 p.m. Saturday at the home of Dustin and Trish Harrington on Highway 104 between Hartland and Millville.

The family was away attending a funeral at the time. Brunswick News reports a relative who arrived on scene kicked in the front door and rescued the family's dog

Crews from Hartland and North York Regional Fire Department Millville District battled the blaze at the home, which is believed to be nearly 150 years old. There were no injuries.

Dan Bedell, Communications Director for Atlantic Canadian Red Cross says disaster volunteers have assisted the couple and their two children with emergency lodging and purchases of clothing, food and other basics.

The fire is currently under investigation.
