Hip-hop and pop collaborations may catch some people off guard, but the results of the collabs have always proved to be a major success on the charts. Most recently, rock band Maroon 5 tapped West Coast MC Kendrick Lamar for the single, “Don’t Wanna Know.” The pop world embracing hip-hop seems to be paying off as the song recently hit No. 9 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

With rap becoming more accepted in mainstream America, the lines between pop music and hip-hop have blurred over the last decade, making for some great and unexpected collaborations between artists of different genres. The first mainstream taste of pop meets rap occurred in 1986 when Run-DMC recreated the groundbreaking rap/rock version of Aerosmith's 1975 song "Walk This Way." Breaking barriers and with the smash record, Run-DMC and Aerosmith's collab proved to be a success as it entered the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and helped set the tone for further collaborations between hip-hop and other genres.

Now 30 years removed from Aerosmith and Run-DMC's hit, the amount of hip-hop and pop collaborations that have spawned since then is countless, and it'll only continue to grow as more pop, rock and country artists tap hip-hop acts to guest feature on their songs.

Today, XXL highlights back at the most successful collaborations rappers have had with genres outside of hip-hop like country, rock and pop. Take a look at the 10 biggest collabs of all time in terms of sales, charts and awards below.
