Have a closet full of dusty old shoes that no longer fit, you no longer like, have been gently-worn but just don't ever get worn any more?

The Houlton Humane Society says, through this fall, you can drop off your gently-used shoes for re-ownership in disadvantaged countries and the shelter can earn as much as $1000 if they collect enough shoes.

That will spay and neuter a lot of animals.

Houlton Humane officials say the shoes are collected by WoofTrax's Shoes For Shelter program and are donated to charities. They wind up worn and appreciated all over the world by many who can't afford new shoes. WoofTrax is also the provider of the Walk For A Dog App, which enables people to raise funds for shelters while walking their dogs.

Drop-off points include the animal shelter, the Varney Insurance office, the New Limerick town office, Machias Savings Bank, Hogan Tire, Hannaford, and other locations to be announced.
