Saturday, May 5 is Free Comic Book Day at local comic book shops around the country. This is your chance to grab specially printed comic books for free.

Free Comic Book Day started in 2002 as a way to encourage people to visit their local comic book shop to experience how great comic books are. With so many blockbuster movies based on comic book heroes hitting theaters every year, sometimes we forget where this all started.

Many comic book shops in Maine will be participating in Free Comic Book day and some will also have other activities like games, costumes and refreshments. There's something for everyone, including one of 52 free comic books available. Not all stores will have all 52, but you're bound to find something you'll like.

Here's a list of all the comic book shops in Maine participating in Free Comic Book Day with links to their websites or Facebook pages to see what they have going on. Find one near you and bring the kids. You'll love it!
