David Ortiz has received some odd gifts and honors as he wraps up the 2016 season, his final of his MLB career, but the one given to him over the weekend may  be his most unique.

‘Big Papi’ had a  15 foot long male Atlantic white shark off the coast of Massachusetts named after his iconic nickname.

Greg Skomal, who is a biologist for the organization, tagged the shark back in early September and the organization announced the name of the animal via its Facebook page with the tagline of ‘Go Sox’.

Ortiz has received paintings, charitable donations, fish, cowboy boots, BBQ, and other items from MLB teams during this final season and was honored with his own Yankee candle a week ago.  The longtime Boston DH is scheduled to play his final regular season game with the Sox on October 2nd against the Toronto Blue Jays, but hopes to play deep into the month of October with Boston in the playoffs.
