Jimmy Garoppolo and Tom Brady each threw a touchdown pass Friday night in Carolina to help the Patriots beat the Panthers 17-16.Brady played the entire first half and got off to rough start by throwing 2 interceptions. The Pats were held scoreless until late in the second quarter when Brady operated the 2-minute offense and threw a touchdown pass to Scott Chandler with :50 seconds to play in the first half.

Garoppolo took over in the second half and threw a pick of his own early before settling in to complete 13 of 17 passes doe 126 yards. His touch down pass to Dion Lewis in the fourth quarter got the Pats within two points before Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 53-yard field goal to give New England their second win of the preseason.

Several offensive starters did not play for the Pats including Julian Edelma, Brandon LaFell, Rob Gronkowski and Bryan Stork. They also lost Pat Devlin to a broken leg in the second half. The early indication is he has a clean break of his tibia and will have surgery today in Charlotte. He will likely miss 6 to 8 weeks.

One game remains in the preseason which will happen on Thursday when the Pats host the New York Giants.
