Frank Ocean Album Release Rumor Sparked by Fake Twitter Account
A lot of anxious Frank Ocean fans fell victim to a prank on Twitter. Social media was abuzz last night (June 1) when a Twitter account called Snatched Bops claimed that Frank Ocean's long awaited album would be released on Friday (June 3).
"Frank Ocean's new album is OFFICIALLY dropping this Friday (June 3rd)," the tweet read. "GET READY!"
The fake rumor took off as people were willing to believe the account had some type of inside information. Currently, the tweet has just over 7,000 retweets likes. The style of the tweet made some fans think it was a reliable source sharing this information despite the fact that the account has less than 600 followers.
Such misinformation spreading is not surprising as the status of Frank Ocean's album has remained a well kept secret. Back in March, producer Malay stated that it might drop in April. Obviously that never came to pass.
"When he’s ready, the world is gonna get it,” Malay said. "It could be tomorrow... well not tomorrow but maybe a month. I feel like he’s working harder than he’s ever worked in his life. I’m excited for everyone to hear it. I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised, for sure."
One of the few concrete details that has emerged came in a James Blake interview. The British musician claimed that the new album is better than Frank Ocean's previous work.
"I was more of a fan of him when I heard his newer music," Blake told Rolling Stone. "It’s better. You grow, you improve, you nail a new message to the board. He’s had time to mature. It’s really cool to watch."
As hard as it might be for some, fans will just have to wait until the time is right. Frank Ocean has no intention of spoiling whatever he has in store.
