A Fort Kent man could face as much as 10 years in prison for stealing prescription drugs from a hospital pharmacy.

Fifty-one-year-old Roland Roy pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor to stealing Hydrocodone, according to U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II.

According to court records, Roy was a pharmacy technician at Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent when hospital officials discovered that a large quantity of Hydrocodone pills was missing.

An investigation revealed that Roy stole more than $1,000 worth of pills that he ordered through the pharmacy.  Roy admitted to NMMC’s human resources director that he had taken a majority of the missing pills.

Roy faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or both.  He will be sentenced after completion of a pre-sentence investigation report by the United States Probation Office, according to Delahanty..

The investigation was conducted by the Office of Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
