On the heels of the Senate approving Justin Trudeau's recreational cannabis bill, the former Chair of the Federal Cannabis Task Force is warning the industry to play by the rules once, and if, it's passed.

According to the Star Business Journal, Anne McLellan, former Chair of the Federal Cannabis Task Force that they've seen this too often with big pharma and big tobacco.

These two entities have clashed with court cases in the past when tested in court.

McLellan advised the industry that they have an opportunity to play by the rules and how they could benefit from concessions in the future for doing so.

Bill C-45 passed in the upper house last week with a vote of 56 to 30 with one abstention, however, there were over four dozen amendments that, some say, the government may not approve.

The bill now heads back to the House of Commons, where the government will decide whether they will approve the bill, or modify language within the bill, or reject it altogether.
