Florida Man Arrested in Fort Fairfield for Trafficking in Heroin

A Florida man has been charged with felony trafficking in heroin in the town of Fort Fairfield in what may be the most significant seizure of the drug in Aroostook County to date.

Early Thursday morning, MDEA investigators, Fort Fairfield Police, Aroostook Sheriff’s Deputies and U.S. Border Patrol Agents executed a search warrant at the Border View Apartments, according to Maine Drug Enforcement Agency District Commander Peter Arno.

In the apartment, agents found over 2 ounces of bulk heroin with a street value of over $20,000, Arno said. Other evidence of drug trafficking was also seized during the search.

Police arrested 37-year-old Ignacio Roque, who had been living at the Fort Fairfield apartment since his release from a Miami prison in February.

The investigation began following information from Fort Fairfield Police Chief Bill Campbell concerning drug activity at the residence. This included the undercover purchase of heroin.

Roque has an extensive criminal history, which includes previous drug offenses, Arno said. He was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant from the State of Florida for parole violations.

The Florida man was transported to the Aroostook County Jail where he was charged with Class A Trafficking in Heroin. Bail was set at $20,000 cash.

Roque is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Friday.
