Five teens have been arrested following an armed home invasion and assault that occurred on Tuesday at an apartment in St. Stephen, New Brunswick.

West District RCMP responded to a call shortly before 1:30 p.m. that three male youths wearing masks entered an apartment on Union Street and attempted to rob a 22-year-old man at knife point. Police said the man was assaulted and suffered minor injuries. The three suspects fled the apartment empty-handed along with two other teens who were waiting outside during the incident, according to the RCMP. All five youths were arrested a short time later.

A 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy, both from St. Stephen, are to appear in Saint John Provincial Youth Court on Thursday to face charges related to the alleged assault. Three 16-year-old boys, from St. Andrews, Wards Creek and St. Stephen were released on conditions and are scheduled to appear in Saint John Provincial Youth Court on February 26, 2016.

Police believe the teens and the victim are known to each other and that this was an isolated incident. The investigation is continuing.
