The New Brunswick Department of Energy and Resource Development says it will offer a French-language firearm safety and hunter education course in Fredericton next month.

The Canadian Firearm Safety Course and the Atlantic Hunter Education Course will be offered Jan. 19-22 at the K.C. Irving Theatre in the Hugh J. Flemming Forestry Complex on Regent Street.

Interested individuals may register by calling 506-453-2345, or register in person at the ancillary building at the forestry complex. Payment is required in advance and can be made during regular business hours either in person or via telephone by credit card.

Successful completion of the Canadian Firearm Safety Course is required to obtain a federal possession and acquisition licence. Completion of both the Canadian Firearm Safety Course and the Atlantic Hunter Education Course is required for first-time hunters, or hunters born after Jan. 1, 1981, to obtain a New Brunswick hunting licence.
