The fire broke out around 11:30 a.m. at 136 Broadway Boulevard in a building that houses a retail clothing store and nine apartments, according to Grand Falls Fire Chief Charles Kavanaugh. Firefighters from Grand Falls and Drummond responded and brought the blaze under control within an hour.

The fire damage was limited to the roof and attic area. There was some smoke and water damage, however, throughout the building.

The Canadian Red Cross is assisting four of the tenants; four others are staying with family or friends. One tenant was out of town when the fire broke out. There were no injuries reported.

Kavanaugh said the fire appears to be accidental, but the cause remains under investigation.
