Emera Maine Braces For Potential Outages In Northern Maine Due To The Weather

With a storm predicted to bring strong winds to the Presque Isle area on Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3, Emera Maine is preparing to safely address any related outages.

With high winds and rain expected in eastern Maine, Emera Maine’s storm response team is monitoring the forecast and will adjust restoration plans if predictions change.

External and internal crews will be positioned in areas where the storm is expected to have the most impact.

Storm Managers Kevin Peterson and Tim Pease said,

“Small changes in the track of this storm could have a large impact on wind predictions, and we will continue to watch the weather while we gear up for a safe response."

Customers are urged to make preparations in case they are affected by the storm:

• If you are not connected to a public water supply, make sure you have a supply of clean water available.
• If you have a secondary heating system that is not dependent upon electricity, make sure it is in good working order with an adequate fuel supply.
• Follow manufacturer guidelines when using alternate heat sources or generators for safe use.
• Ensure your generator will not back-feed into the electrical system, putting both the public and utility employees at risk.

Customers are reminded to never touch a downed power line or a tree in contact with one.

It is never safe to move lines out of the way or drive over the top of them. It is not possible to tell if a line is energized simply by looking at it.

Motorists also are urged to slow down or move over and change lanes, when possible, if approaching utility crews working on roadways, to ensure everyone's safety.
