The West District RCMP is investigating after an elderly pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday evening in St. Stephen, New Brunswick.

Police responded to the collision on Milltown Boulevard at around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Sgt. Peter Stubbs of the St. Stephen detachment.

An 88-year-old woman from St. Stephen was transported to hospital, but later died of her injuries. Sgt. Stubbs said it appeared that the woman was struck while she was trying to cross the road.

The collision is still under investigation, however alcohol and speed are not believed to have been contributing factors. No other details have been released at this point.
