CANTON, Maine (AP) — Maine State Police say two people were killed when a car collided with a dump truck in the town of Canton.

Troopers say the 73-year-old Howard Child and his 75-year-old wife, Carrie Child, of Dixfield died when their car crossed into the path of a truck loaded with potatoes.

The head-on collision took place Thursday afternoon on Route 108 near Victorian Villa, a rehabilitation center.

Troopers say the dump truck, owned by Crane Brothers of Canton, was operated by 66-year-old James Bagley of St. Albans, who was not injured.
