According to the RCMP, 50-year-old Lee Blanchette pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.  He was sentenced to 22 months in jail and prohibited from owning a firearm for 10 years.

Blanchette was arrested in the Rivière-Verte area in December 2011 after police found him with a large quantity of cocaine.

The arrest was part of a 3-year joint investigation by the RCMP Federal Operations West in Saint-Léonard and the Edmundston Police Force to disrupt the drug trade in the northwestern part of New Brunswick.

Later in the investigation, RCMP arrested four other men from Kedgwick, Tobique First Nation and Montreal, who they say were part of an organized crime group supplying large quantities of drugs in the area. In addition to cocaine, police seized nearly 10,000 methamphetamine pills.
