An Edmundston man faces drug trafficking charges after police say they seized illegal drugs following a traffic stop.

On Tuesday, Edmundston Police - as part of a drug investigation - stopped a vehicle traveling west on the Trans Canada Highway near the exit ramp at Hébert Boulevard.

Police arrested four individuals in the vehicle.  Further investigation resulted in the seizure of more than 200 synthetic drug tablets and a small amount of marijuana, according to a press release from the Edmundston Police Force.

On Wednesday, 34-year-old Gary Rafuse appeared in Edmundston Provincial Court to face charges of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of marijuana and breach of undertaking.

Rafuse was released under bail conditions issued by the judge. He will return to court to stand trial on January 14, 2016.

Edmundston police said a second person will appear in court on November 17.
