Ed Sheeran made a cameo appearance on last night's (Jul.16) premiere of Game of Thrones, and it took everyone by surprise -- even though Ed revealed the news himself back in May.

Spoilers to follow...

As Arya Stark, played by certified Sheeran fan Maisie Williams, rides through the Riverlands after killing off the whole Frey clan, she's drawn to a group of singing soldiers.

"That's a pretty song. I've never heard it before," Arya says.

Ed, who led the folk song, tells her: "It's a new one."

After that, we see the redheaded Brit sit silently through the rest of the scene as the rest of the troupe speaks with Arya and indulges in homemade blackberry wine.

The "Shape of You" singer's GoT fame only lasted a few minutes, but he was so excited about it, even sharing Sunday's viewing experience on Instagram.

His appearance quickly set the Internet on fire, filling social media with good and bad reviews. While some fans were ecstatic, others weren't impressed.

Although we're not too sure if Ed is the reason HBO's site shut down during the premiere, it's safe to say that his cameo may have a had a hand in the madness.
