State Police say Alan Rideout was driving a 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo south on Route 1A in Mars Hill shortly after midnight. According to Sgt. Chad Fuller, Rideout fell asleep at the wheel and his car veered off the right side of the road. The vehicle then struck a mailbox, a road sign, and a tree.

Police said Rideout was wearing his seat belt and did not have to be transported to the hospital.

Maine State Trooper Patrick Pescitelli investigated the crash. The Mars Hill Fire Department also responded to the scene.
