Drake's "One Dance" was one of many songs that filled America's apparently bottomless appetite for "tropical pop" songs within this past year — and now, Spotify reports that it's the service's most-streamed song of all time.

The Views single, first released on April 5, has reached No. 1 status in ten countries including the United States (it was Drake's first Hot 100 No. 1, as "Hotline Bling" peaked at No. 2). "One Dance" features Nigerian recording artist Wizkid and a substantial and slowed-down sample of UK singer Kyla's vocals from 2007's Crazy Cousinz-produced funky house track "Do You Mind." The result of this hooky melange of influences proved irresistible to listeners, garnering over 880 million Spotify streams as of October 18.  The song's also up for an American Music Award nomination for Favorite Song Pop/Rock; its success is no small feat considering Drake has yet to release an official music video for "One Dance."

The previous Spotify streaming record was held by Major Lazer's "Lean On," which was arguably the first island-music-influenced pop song to hit with mass audiences in 2015, followed by on-trend Top 20 singles including Justin Bieber's "Sorry," Sia's "Cheap Thrills" and Drake's fellow Views tracks "Controlla" and "Too Good" with Rihanna.

Spotify launched in the United States in July of 2011 and reached 39 million paying subscribers in August 2016, according to DigitalMusicNews. Given that consumers may continue to flock to streaming sites in the future, growing the base of online listeners, Drake's Spotify record may be broken sooner rather than later — and when it does, the new world-favorite song serve as a bellwether of pop's next trend in sound.
