Sgt. Matthew Cummings responded to the crash in Frenchville around 2:30 p.m. The investigation determined that 37-year-old Kate Pinette was traveling north on Route 1 when she lost control of her 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The SUV went off the road and became lodged in a snow bank in a private driveway.

Pinette acknowledged that she was distracted at the time of the crash, according to a press release from Sheriff Darrell Crandall.

Pinette and her 16-year-old passenger received minor injuries but declined medical treatment. Police said the woman was wearing a seat belt but her passenger was not.

Sgt. Cummings issued Pinette traffic summonses for failing to maintain control of her vehicle and for the seat belt violation.

The vehicle was towed from the scene with disabling damage.
