UPDATE: Demi Lovato has responded to negative feedback she received after posting a video on Snapchat showing her mom making a joke about the Zika virus, after which Lovato laughed off-camera.

On Twitter Saturday afternoon (August 13), the pop star wrote, "In no way did I mean to offend anyone last night. I was laughing at how southern my mom sounded, not the issue at hand. Deepest apologies."

She then followed up her initial apology with a pointedly more defensive tweet—likely in response to the #DemiLovatoIsOverParty hashtag that is trending—sharing, "If you watch everything I do, you're still a fan... I ain't goin [sic] nowhere b---hes."

Yes, #DemiLovatoIsOverParty is trending on Twitter, and no, it's not because of another celebrity.

Fans are furious at Demi Lovato after she shared a video on Snapchat of her mom, Dianna Hart, possibly inebriated (she is seen drinking a cocktail in another video) and joking about the Zika virus.

"Everybody down in Rio gonna get the Zika virus," Hart says in the video clip, which also features the "Stone Cold" singer laughing in the background.

The insensitive comment upset many of Lovato's followers and detractors, who responded by getting the hashtag #DemiLovatoIsOverParty trending on Twitter early Saturday morning (August 13).

Fans are particularly disappointed that Lovato, who has been an open champion for breaking the stigmas attached to mental illness, would co-sign a joke about something as serious as the Zika virus, which causes birth defects in babies and has had negative affects in both North and South America, particularly in underprivileged communities.

Fears surrounding the virus have also impacted the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, despite the World Health Organization announcing a "very low risk" of the disease spreading due to the event.
