‘Deadwood’ Revival Script Finally Delivered to HBO, Says Ian McShane

Deadwood Movie Script Ian McShane

Ian McShane is an adorably irregular source of information; one minute spoiling Game of Thrones, and the next promising Deadwood updates that never come to pass. The latest rings closer to the latter, as the erstwhile Al Swearengen says the next move is officially HBO’s, and a decision might be incoming.

Where previously HBO boss Casey Bloys claimed not to have seen any scripts for David Milch’s long-gestating Deadwood revival, American Gods star McShane tells TVLine a “two-hour movie script has been delivered to HBO … If they don’t deliver [a finished product], blame them.” McShane also noted he’d be having lunch with Milch soon for an update.

McShane’s co-star Kim Dickens also previously testified to a lunch with her former Deadwood boss, wherein he’d read from the “stacks” of scripts for a potential revival. Most recently, Milch was said to be working on a potential third season of HBO’s True Detective, alongside showrunner Nic Pizzolatto.

Of course, it’d still be up to Milch to gather the prolific cast (sadly without Ralph Richeson), which in three seasons included Dickens, McShane, Justified lead Timothy Olyphant, Jessica Jones alum Robin Weigert, Breaking Bad breakout Anna Gunn, Paula Malcolmson, Molly Parker, and many more. Deadwood ran from 2004 to 2006, showcasing the rise of Deadwood, South Dakota from frontier gold prospecting camp to fully-annexed territory.

We’ll see if McShane’s teases pan out this time, but how long is too long to revisit Deadwood?
