Some good news on what would have been Prince’s 58th birthday today (June 7). Music superstars D’Angelo, The Roots, Janelle Monae and Sheila E. have been tapped to honor the Purple One at the 2016 BET Awards.

The announcement comes a month after Madonna presented her failed tribute to the late music icon at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. BET later clowned Madge for her performance, but she responded back as expected.

D’Angelo pretty much secured his spot having performed many of Prince’s songs during his concerts and most recently on the Tonight Show with his rendition of “Sometimes It Snows In April.”

With the Roots, Janelle Monae and Sheila E. in the mix, the Prince tribute should be one of the highlights at the BET Awards. We are crossing our fingers that Miguel will join the tribute as well because fans are demanding it.

Prince, who died in April from accidental overdose of painkillers, received the BET Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.

The 2016 BET Awards will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on June 26 at 8PM ET.
