A year ago Staci Creech played in her first Maine Women's Amateur Golf Championship and won by seven strokes. Today she opens up defense of her title at Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono.

Creech, the wife of UMaine athletic director Karlton Creech, is one of the favorites to win again after her strong performance at Biddeford-Saco Country Club last year.

She will tee off at 7:30am and is paired with Bailey Plourde, the young golfer who plays out of the Samoset course in Rockport. She won the Maine Junior Championship title last week.

Other former WMSGA champs in the field include Lori Frost, Leslie Guenther and Kristen Kannegieser.

NOTE: You can hear Staci Creech discuss the state championship today during the Morning Pitch Show from 6am-8am on Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket.
