The clinic is now open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day, including weekends and holidays.

“While the clinic had been open 12 hours a day on week days, it had closed in the afternoon on the weekends and had not been open on holidays.  After listening to the needs of our patients and restructuring how we are providing the service, we are now able to offer extended services to the community,” says Jennifer Tweedie, director of medical specialists, who now oversees Walk In Care.

TAMC’s Walk In Care opened in 2009 as part of the healthcare organization’s expansion to North Street Healthcare.  While originally operated as an extension of TAMC’s primary care practices, the clinic will now operate under TAMC’s Emergency Department.  Experienced ED providers will be providing the coverage in Walk In Care.

“Walk In is an excellent option for individuals with less serious injuries and illnesses than would bring them to the emergency room.  It is a good choice alternative for those who either do not have a primary care provider or who cannot get a timely appointment with their PCP,” explains Tweedie.

Conditions ideal for Walk In Care include: colds, flu or sore throat; minor cuts and scrapes; sinus, eye and ear infections; asthma treatment; headaches; urinary tract infections; seasonal allergies; fever; and other minor medical concerns.  No appointments are necessary and lab services are available on-site.  Individuals need not be TAMC patients to be seen.

“Walk In Care is generally faster and less expensive than the Emergency Department, making it a better option in many cases.  However, patients are urged to go directly to the Emergency Department, which is open 24-hours a day, or call 911 for help with issues such as: chest pain; shortness of breath; signs of a stroke; fractures; severe cuts or bruises; alcohol or drug overdose; seizure; or any life-threatening emergency,” stresses Tweedie.

This change in hours has already begun, so those seeking care can rest assured that services are more accessible and convenient than ever at TAMC Walk In Care.
