According to the Associated Press, Collins made her announcement on Wednesday along with Alaska Republican Lisa Murkowski.

If the rest of the Senate votes along party lines, it would end up in a tie for DeVos with the Senate being split 50-50. It would then fall to Vice President Mike Pence to cast the deciding vote.

Independent Senator King, announced his oppostion to President Trump's choice for education secretary last week, citing DeVos’s perceived lack of support for public schools.

DeVos is a school choice activist and a big supporter of charter schools, according to AP. She is also in favor of using taxpayer-funded vouchers for private and parochial school tuition.
