The fire at the West Gate Mobile Home Park was reported at about 7 a.m. Thursday, according to Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland.   Caribou Firefighters entered the burning home and removed the victims.

The three children were rushed to Cary Medical Center in Caribou where they were pronounced dead.  The children are a four-year-old boy and two-year-old twins. Officials say the woman died at the scene.

A team of Fire Marshal investigators was en route to Caribou to investigate the cause of the blaze.

This is the deadliest fire in memory in Caribou, and comes less than 3 weeks after a fire in Portland killed six young people at an apartment house and one day after a fatal fire in St. Francis.

State Fire Marshal Joe Thomas said in light of the fire deaths, Maine residents need to make sure their homes have working smoke detectors, and that families review and practice fire escape plans.
