Kathy loves what she does. She's one of those people who comes to work excited. She's been part of the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department for 39 years--34 of those years she's been the Superintendent and attributes her longevity to the hardworking people in her community. She believes Northern Maine offers a great way of life and is filled with some pretty cool people.

When she first arrived in Aroostook County her plans were to work for the Northeast District YMCA. After that didn't pan out she spent some time at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and the Washburn School District before landing in Caribou in the summer of 1975.

Since then, a couple of her proudest moments have been the purchase of abandoned rail bed in the early 90s which is now used as four season recreation trail for the public. She says it was a lot of legal work, but it was worth it. She's also proud to have been part of the creation of the new Caribou Wellness & Recreation Center.

Kathy admits she will miss the camaraderie with her staff, but says there are great plans for summer 2014. After her final day (still not set, but no later than September 1st, 2014), she has dates with Alaska, the East Coast Greenway, and the Bright Angel Trail at the Grand Canyon.
