Caribou Man Pleads Guilty For Failure To Register As A Sex Offender

A Caribou man pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court for failing to register as a sex offender in Maine and for not informing his home state that he had relocated.

According to court records, 58-year old Stephen G. Olivo, formerly of Hillsborough County New Hampshire, now of Caribou, was convicted of aggravated felonious sexual assault in his home county in October of 1990, for failing to register as a sex offender for life.

However, in late 2014 or early 2015, Olivo traveled from the state of Georgia to Maine, working and taking residence in Aroostook County, but did not inform the sex offender registry in New Hampshire that he had relocated to Maine.

Olivo was arrested in September for failure to register as a sex offender in Maine.

He faces up to 10 years in prison and faces paying a $250,000 fine.

Sentencing will begin after a presentence investigation has been completed by the U.S. Probation Office.
