Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan says 40-year-old Colin Campbell was traveling east on Route 89 Monday when he attempted to go around a motorcycle that was turning left onto the Madawaska Road.

Campbell lost control of his bike, causing it to lay down on the road and ejecting him from the motorcycle.  He was not wearing a helmet, Gahagan said.

Campbell was transported by Caribou Ambulance to Cary Medical Center where he later passed away from his injuries. The cause of the accident is under investigation by Officer Timothy Dubois of the Caribou Police Department.

Five people are reported to have died in motorcycle accidents in Maine over the Labor Day weekend.
