Maine State Police say Nathan Corbin was operating his friend's 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix southbound on U.S. Route 1 around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Corbin told State Troopers that a moose ran into the roadway and he swerved to avoid hitting the animal, according to Sgt. Jeff Clark. The vehicle went off the northbound side of the road and crashed into some trees.

There were four passengers in the car with Corbin at the time. All were taken by Houlton Ambulance at Houlton Regional Hospital with minor injuries, Clark said.

State Police say Corbin was operating on a suspended license at the time of the crash. He is scheduled to appear in Houlton District Court on December 6.

The investigation is ongoing.
