A California renewable energies company has agreed to a $26.5 million buyout of the development rights for what would become the state's largest wind farm.

Pattern Energy Group Inc. has reached a deal with SunEdison to buy rights for the proposed King Pine wind project in southern Aroostook County, in unorganized territory northwest of Houlton. SunEdison filed for bankruptcy protection in April.

The proposed 174-turbine, 600-megawatt project would have over three times the capacity of the Bingham wind farm, currently Maine's largest. SunEdison sold its Oakfield and Bingham projects to Terra Nova Renewable Partners last December.

The notice submitted to the bankruptcy court Thursday could face objections from companies and individuals affected by SunEdison’s bankruptcy. They must file objections with the court by the end of June.
